26 27Caring for your hearing aidsProtecting your hearing aids• If your hearing aids are rechargeable:• Place in powered charging base when notin use.• If your hearing aids are non-rechargeable:• Open the battery doors when not in use.• Always remove your hearing aids whenusing hair care products. The hearing aidscan become clogged and cease to functionproperly.• Do not wear your hearing aids in the bath orshower or immerse them in water.• If your hearing aids do become wet, do notattempt to dry them in an oven or microwave.Do not adjust any controls. Open the batterydoors immediately, remove the batteries andallow your hearing aids to dry naturally for24 hours.• Protect your hearing aids from excessive heat(hair dryer, vehicle glove box or dashboard).• Regular use of a dehumidifier, such as aClean Dry kit, can help prevent corrosionand prolong the life of your hearingaids. Remove batteries before using adehumidifier.• Do not drop your hearing aids or knock themagainst hard surfaces.Cleaning your hearing aidsUse a soft cloth to clean your hearing aid atthe end of each day, and place it in its casewith the battery door open to allow moisture toevaporate.Ear wax is natural and common. Ensuring yourhearing aids are free of ear wax is an importantstep in your daily cleaning and maintenanceroutine.Never use alcohol to clean your hearing aids,earmolds or domes.Do not use sharp tools to dislodge ear wax.Sticking household items into your hearing aidsor earmolds can seriously damage them.
