In a similar way, the VEN unit shuts downautomatically whenever the temperature exceeds thatset at the selector control (1).OverflowDuring operation, the expansion of the water in the tankas it heats up results in some hot water dripping fromthe swiveling outlet. This is a normal procedure withopen tanks and tightening the tap valve assembly willnot prevent it occurring.Frost protectionThe water in the tank remains cold whenever frost-protection mode is active (see figs. 3.1 and 3.2). A frost-protection system nevertheless prevents the VEN unitfreezing up when it is connected to a water tank.Indicator lightThis indicator lamp (2) lights up to show that the pre-setwater temperature has not yet been reached. Theindicator light goes out once the pre-set temperature isreached. The heating system shuts down.3.4 Servicing and inspectionVaillant VEN electric storage water heaters are designedto require virtually no maintenance. All internal compo-nents are protected from external influences. It issufficient just to wipe down the VEN unit occasionallywith a damp cloth – with a little water and milddetergent if required.Furring can occur with water of certain types and withcertain water temperatures and levels of consumption. In the case of open appliances, this can lead to anincrease in pressure and – in extreme circumstances – toirreparable damage to the appliance. Regular inspectionand descaling will prevent this happening. If the waterflow-rate drops noticeably, have the power-supply andwater-inlet components examined – and the VEN unitdescaled – by an authorised installer.3.5 TroubleshootingIn the event of a fault occurring, disconnect the VENunit immediately by unplugging it from the mains powersupply. Have the fault rectified by an authorised serviceinstaller only.Danger!Do not attempt to repair the applianceyourself under any circumstances.Figs. 3.3 / 3.4: Key1 Temperature selector2 Indicator lightVEN_004/0.eps
