124 Driving and operatingFollowing distanceindicationThe following distance indicationdisplays the distance to a movingvehicle in front, when a vehicle isdetected ahead at speeds over25 mph.When a preceding vehicle is detectedahead, the distance is indicated inseconds, displayed on a page in theDriver Information Centre (DIC)3 73. The minimum distance is0.5 seconds away. If there is novehicle ahead, or the vehicle ahead isout of range, dashes will bedisplayed.Ultrasonic parking assistThe ultrasonic parking assist makesparking easier by measuring thedistance between the vehicle andobstacles, and giving acousticsignals. It is the driver, however, whobears full responsibility for the parkingmanoeuvre.Ultrasonic parking assist operates atspeeds lower than 5 mph. Thesensors on the front and rear bumperdetect objects up to 1.2 m in front ofthe vehicle, 2.5 m behind the vehicleand at least 25 cm off the ground.System operationWhen the vehicle is shifted into R thefront and rear sensors areautomatically turned on. After thevehicle is shifted out of R, the rearsensors are turned off and the frontsensors stay on until the vehicle ismoving at a speed higher than5 mph.
