Vehicle features Vehicle featuresVehicle features Vehicle featuresLongitudinal seat adjustment:Pull handle, slide seat, releasehandle.Danger:Do not sit nearer than 25 cm fromsteering wheel, to permit safeairbag deployment.Seat backrests:Pull lever, adjust inclination andrelease lever. Allow the backrest toengage audibly.Do not angle the backrest too farback. We recommend a maximumrake of approx. 25 o .Seat height:Lever pumping motion.up = seat higherdown = seat lowerSeat position:Sit with buttocks are as far backagainst backrest as possible.Adjust distance between seat andpedals so that your legs are slightlyangled when depressing pedals.Slide the front passenger seat asfar back as possible.Head restraint adjustment:Press button, adjust height andengage in position. The upper edgeof the head restraint should be atupper head level.To adjust horizontally, pull thehead restraint forwards. It engagesin several positions.Fitting seat belts:Withdraw seat belt from retractor,guide it untwisted across the bodyand insert latch plate in belt buckle.To release belt, press red button onbelt buckle.Fasten seat belt before each trip.Steering wheel adjustment:Unlock lever, adjust steering wheel,then engage lever and ensure it isfully locked.Do not adjust steering wheel unlessvehicle is stationary and steeringwheel lock has been released.Electric exterior mirrors:Select the relevant exterior mirrorby moving the selector switch to theleft (L) or right (R).Then press the control pad toadjust the respective mirror.In the centre position of the selectorswitch, no mirror is selected.Interior mirror:To reduce dazzle, adjust lever onthe underside of the mirror housing.Dazzle from following vehicles atnight is automatically reduced ifthe vehicle is equipped withautomatic anti-dazzle interiormirror.Power windows:Front switches operate the frontwindows and rear switches operatethe rear windows. Push switch = Open window Pull switch = Close windowPush or pull switch to the seconddetent position and then release:Window opens or closesautomatically with safety functionenabled. To stop windowmovement, operate switch oncemore in the same direction.If the window glass encountersresistance above the middle of thewindow during automatic closing,it is immediately stopped andopened again.Light switch:Turn light switch:AUTO = Automatic light control:Exterior lighting isswitched on and offautomatically, dependingon external lightingconditionsm = Activation or deactivationof Automatic light control.Switch returns to AUTO.8 = Sidelights9 = Low beam or high beamAutomatic light control:When the function is switched onand the ignition is on, the systemswitches between daytime runninglights and headlights, dependingon external lighting conditions.Daytime running lights:Increases visibility of the vehicleduring daylight.Automatic headlight activation:During poor lighting conditions, thelow beam is switched on.Do not cover the light sensorotherwise the AUTO mode will notoperate properly.Exit lighting:The low beam and reversing lightsilluminate briefly by doing thefollowing:1. Switch off ignition2. Open the driver’s door3. Pull turn signal lever brieflythen releaseSome interior lights come on whenthe ignition is switched off. Theexterior and interior lights remainon for a brief period after the dooris closed and will switch offautomatically after a short delay.Entry lighting:Press button ( on remote control:Low beam, reversing lights andinterior lights are switched onbriefly.Lights switch off immediately whenthe power button m is pressed.Operating headlight flash, highbeam and low beam:Headlight flash = Pull levertowardssteering wheelHigh beam = Push leverforwardsLow beam = Push leverforwardsagain or pulltowardssteering wheelRear fog light:Turn the fog light band on the leverto position r and release it, to turnthe rear fog light on or off. Theband will return to its originalposition when released.Headlights and sidelights must beon for the rear fog light to work.Headlight range adjustment:Adapt headlight range to suit thevehicle load to prevent dazzling ofother road users.Turn thumb wheel ? to requiredposition. Front seats occupied = 0 All seats occupied = 1 All seats occupied andload compartment laden = 2 Driver’s seat occupied andload compartment laden = 3Turn and lane-change signals:Lever up = Right turn signalLever down = Left turn signalIf lever is moved past the resistancepoint, the turn signal is switched onconstantly. When the steeringwheel is moved back the turn signalis automatically deactivated.For three flashes, e.g. whenchanging lanes, press the lever untilresistance is felt and then release.Move lever to resistance point andhold for longer indication.Switch the turn signal off manuallyby moving the lever to its originalposition.Hazard warning flashers:Operated with the ¨ button.In the event of an accident wherethe airbags are deployed, thehazard warning flashers areactivated automatically.Windscreen wiper:HI = FastLO = SlowINT = Adjustable timedinterval wipeOFF = OffFor a single wipe when the wiper isoff, press the lever down.Lever in position INT: Turn adjusterwheel up or down to make wipinginterval shorter or longer.Do not use wiper if windscreen isfrozen. Switch off in car washes.Windscreen washer:Pull lever towards steering wheel.Washer fluid is sprayed onto thewindscreen and the wiper swipesfor a few strokes.Pedestrian safety alert:Use this feature to alert people whomay not hear your vehicleapproaching.Briefly press button 4 on the endof the turn and lane-change signallever and a soft-note alert willmomentarily sound.The pedestrian safety alert is onlyavailable when the vehicle is not inPark position P.Heated rear window,heated exterior mirrors Ü:The heating is operated bypressing the Ü button.Heating switches off automaticallyafter approx. 5 minutes.Demisting and defrostingwindows: Press button V. Set temperature to warmestlevel. Switch heated rear window Üon.Auto defog:The system monitors high humidityinside the vehicle and adjusts tooutside air supply and turns on theair conditioning or the heater ifnecessary. Fan speed may increaseslightly, to help prevent fogging.When high humidity is no longerdetected, the system will return toits prior operation.Electrical parking brake:To apply, pull switch J with vehiclestationary: the electrical parkingbrake is applied automatically andcontrol indicator J flashes thenilluminates in the instrument clusterwhen fully applied. For maximumforce, e.g. parking on inclines, pullswitch J twice.The electrical parking brake canalways be applied, even if theignition is off.To release, switch on ignition. Keepbrake pedal depressed and thenpush switch J.To prevent the 12-volt battery fromdraining, avoid repeated use of theelectrical parking brake switchwhen the ignition is off.Unlocking and opening tailgate:Press button ( on remote control- or - press lock/unlock button ondoor handle (once or twice,depending on configuration) tounlock the tailgate.Press the button under the tailgatehandle to unlatch, and lift up toopen the tailgate.Closing and locking tailgate:Use interior handle to close.Do not press the button under thetailgate handle whilst closing or itwill unlatch again.Always close the tailgate beforedriving.Press button ) on remote control- or - press lock/unlock button ondoor handle to lock the vehicle.Opening the bonnet:Switch ignition off before openingthe bonnet, otherwise the enginewill be started automatically.Pull bonnet release lever locatedbelow instrument panel and returnit to its original position.Push safety catch in enginecompartment to the right and openthe bonnet fully.Release bonnet prop rod from itsretainer above the radiator supportand place it securely into theslotted retainer in the bonnet.Closing the bonnet:Before closing, press the bonnetprop rod into its retainer. Lowerbonnet and allow it to drop into thecatch. Check bonnet is engaged.Refuelling:The fuel system on this vehiclerequires a refuelling process tocontrol evaporative emissions.Before refuelling, switch off engineand any external heaters withcombustion chambers.Switch off any mobile phones.To refuel:1. Press the fuel button in thedriver’s door for one second.A message is displayed in theDriver Information Centre (DIC)asking you to wait.2. When a message is displayed inthe DIC confirming the system isready to be refuelled, the fueldoor on the right rear side willunlock.Push the rear edge of the fueldoor inwards and release toopen the fuel door.3. Turn fuel cap anti-clockwise toremove. When refuelling, hangthe fuel cap tether from the hookon the inside of the fuel door.Complete refuelling within30 minutes of pressing fuelbutton in the driver’s door.Press button again if necessary,to continue refuelling.4. After refuelling, reinstall the fuelcap by turning it clockwise until itclicks. Close the fuel door.Do not top off or overfill the fueltank and wait a few seconds beforeremoving the nozzle.Wipe off any overflowing fuel.Petrol engine - only use unleadedfuel that complies with DIN EN 228.Use of fuel that does not complywith DIN EN 228 or similar can leadto deposits or engine damage andloss of warranty.Fuel tank capacity (all models) -35 litres. |
