103 Product descriptionVEGAPULS 61 • Profibus PA28444-EN-141215• Article and serial number device• Article numbers, documentation• Technical data: Approvals, antenna type, process fitting, processseal/temperature, signal output, voltage supply, protection, protec-tion classWith the serial number, you can access the delivery data of the instru-ment via www.vega.com, "VEGA Tools" and "serial number search".You can find the serial number on the inside of the instrument as wellas on the type label on the outside.3.2 Principle of operationVEGAPULS 61 is a radar sensor in K-band (emitting frequency ap-prox. 26 GHz) for continuous level measurement. The version with encapsulated antenna system is particularly suit-able for level measurement of aggressive liquids in small vessels. The version with plastic horn antenna is particularly suitable for flowmeasurement in open flumes or gauge measurement in bodies ofwater. The electronics with increased sensitivity enables the use of VE-GAPULS 61 also in applications with very poor reflective properties orproducts with low εr value. The antenna of the radar sensor emits short radar pulses with aduration of approx. 1 ns. These pulses are reflected by the productand received by the antenna as echoes. The transit time of the radarpulses from emission to reception is proportional to the distance andhence to the level. The determined level is converted into an appropri-ate output signal and outputted as measured value.Power supply via the Profibus DP/PA segment coupler or VEGALOG571 EP cards. A two-wire cable according to Profibus specificationserves as carrier of both power and digital data transmission for mul-tiple sensors. The instrument profile of VEGAPULS 61 corresponds toprofile specification version 3.0.The GSD (instrument master files) and bitmap files necessary forplanning your Profibus-DP-(PA) communication network are availablefrom the download section on the VEGA homepage www.vega.comunder "Services - Downloads - Software - Profibus". There you canalso find the appropriate certificates. In a PDM environment, an EDD(Electronic Device Description) is also required to enable the fullrange of sensor functions (also available as a download).A CD withthe appropriate files can be ordered via e-mail under info@de.vega.com or by phone from one of the VEGA agencies under the ordernumber "DRIVER.S".The backlight of the display and adjustment module is powered by thesensor. Prerequisite is a certain level of operating voltage. The data for power supply are specified in chapter "Technical data".The optional heating requires its own operating voltage.
