PPG Wave 2.VOperation Manual 29 WaldorfGlossaryAftertouchMost modern MIDI keyboards can generate Aftertouch data. If you additionally pressdown an already held note on such a keyboard, then this generates Aftertouch MIDmessages. This is used to give the sound an additional expressiveness (e.g. by opening afilter this way).AliasingAliasing is an audible side effect that occurs in digital systems, as soon as the usefulsignal contains frequencies that are higher than half the sample frequency.AmplifierHere: A device that changes the level of a sound according to a controlling signal that itreceives. The controlling signal is often created by an Envelope.ArpeggiatorAn Arpeggiator is a device that splits an incoming MIDI chord into its individual notesand repeats them rhythmically. Often, different pattern types can be preset to cover awide application range. As it is simple to use and creates interesting results, this functi-on offers a lot of fun.AttackParameter of an Envelope. Attack is the term used to describe the time that an Envelopeneeds to reach its maximum peak. The Attack phase starts directly when the trigger sig-nal comes in, e.g. when you press a key on your keyboard.ClippingClipping is a distortion that occurs, when a signal level exceeds its maximum availableheadroom. The character of a “clipping” signal depends on the system type in which itoccurs. In an analog system, the signal is limited to its maximum level. In a digital sys-tem, clipping is the equivalent to numeric overflow, which reverses signal polarity abo-ve the maximum possible value.Controller (Control-Change)You can automate many PPG Wave 2.V parameters using MIDI Controller messages. This lets you e.g. create interesting sound transformations in real time. Controller data isdirectly created when you use the corresponding dials. and it can e.g. be recorded inyour sequencer program. You can also graphically create MIDI Controller data in therespective Editor of your program. (Please read the manual of your host application formore information). A list of all available MIDI Controllers and their functions can befound at the end of this manual.Cutoffsee Filter Frequency.
