Sound Parameters – GlideWaldorf Q User’s Manual 72Glide“Glide or "Portamento" describes the continuous gliding from one note to another. This effect can becreated on fretless string instruments or some brass instruments (e.g. trombone). It is very common onsynthesizers and used throughout all music styles. Please note that Glide affects the pitch of alloscillators. The controls for the glide effect are located in the Oscillators section. The following parameters can be accessed via the Oscillator edit menu of the Q Rack or the frontpanel of the Q Keyboard:Glide Rate0…127Determines the glide time. Low values will give a short glide time in the range of milliseconds thatgives a special character to the sound. High values will result in a long glide time up to severalseconds which can be useful for solo and effect sounds.Glide ModePortamento / Fingered Portamento / Glissando / Fingeres GlissDetermines the way the Glide effect works.•Portamento means that a continuous glide is performed on all new notes.•Fingered Portamento means that a continuous glide is performed only, when notes areplayed legato. Staccato played notes start on the exact pitch of their note.•Glissando makes the normal Glissando effect in the same manner by changing the pitch insemitones.•Fingered Gliss is similar to Glissando but generates a pitchchange only when notes areplayed coherent (legato).Glide / Activeoff / onEnables or disables the Glide effect.MixerIn the Mixer, you control the volumes of the oscillators, the noise generator and an external soundsource. Ring modulation can be applied optionally to extend the Q’s tonal range. The following picture of the Q’s front panel shows the Mixer section:
