Maintenance Instructions LUBRICATION49Oil Drain Location(view from left side of tractor)4. Before removing the oil filter, clean the areaaround the filter to keep dirt and debris out ofthe engine.Oil Filter Location5. Remove the old oil filter and wipe off the filtermounting surface on the engine.6. Apply a thin coating of clean oil to the rubbergasket on the replacement oil filter.IMPORTANT: Use ONLY oil filters from the en-gine manufacturer (Kubota 15841-32439). Af-termarket oil filters may not seal properly and/ormay not have the correct pressure relief valvefor proper lubrication. Also, the filter length di-mension is critical for tailwheel clearance.7. Install the new oil filter on the engine. Turn thefilter clockwise until the rubber gasket contactsthe sealing surface, then tighten the filter anadditional 1/2 turn.8. Reinstall the drain plug. Make sure it is tight-ened to 10 ft-lb (13.6 N·m).9. Fill the crankcase with new, clean oil. Use onlycrankcase lubricants recommended by the en-gine manufacturer. Refer to Specifications inthis manual or the engine owner’s manual. Usethe recommended oil viscosity for the expectedambient temperature. Oil with the correct vis-cosity will aid starting in cold weather and as-sure proper lubrication in hot weather. Fill upto, but not above, the upper mark on the dip-stick. Crankcase capacity is 3.1 quarts (2.9 li-ters) plus 1/2 pint (.24 liters) for the new oil filter.IMPORTANT: DO NOT use oil that is rated forgasoline engines only (API SE/SF). This willcause problems with a diesel engine.IMPORTANT: Check the dipstick reading be-fore adding the last 1/2 pint of oil and fill only tothe upper mark. DO NOT overfill the crank-case (oil above upper mark) as this CAN resultin engine overheating, loss of power, and pos-sible engine damage.10. Start the engine and check for oil leaks aroundthe oil filter. Stop the engine, recheck the oillevel, and add oil if necessary. (When the en-gine is first operated with a new oil filter, the oillevel drops slightly as the filter is filled with oil.)Grease Fitting and Oil Point LubricationLubricate the grease fittings and oil points after ev-ery 25 hours of operation. Lubricate more oftenwhen operating in dusty or dirty conditions. UseSAE general purpose lithium or molybdenum basegrease for grease fittings and light machine oil (SAE10) to lubricate oil points. Lubricate the locationsshown in the Chassis and Deck LubricationPoints illustration.NOTE: PTO universal joints (on the deck and trac-tor) require routine lubrication after every 8 hoursof running time.Drain PlugOil Filter
