BX36S3PH Self-feed Chipper PTO Shaft Connection219. PTO Shaft ConnectionA PTO drive line is supplied with the machine tocomplement the wide variety of 3-point hitchesavailable on tractors today. The drive line length mayneed to be adjusted. It is very important that the driveline be free to telescope and not to bottom out whengoing through its working range.IMPORTANT! If the drive line bottoms out, thebearings on both the machine and tractor PTOshaft will be overloaded and could fail.9.1 Determine Correct PTO ShaftLengthClear the area of bystanders, especially small children.1. Attach the chipper to the tractor (see section 4.6)but do not attach the drive line.2. Raise the machine until the input shaft is level withthe tractor PTO shaft.3. Measure the dimension (A) between the lockinggrooves on the tractor PTO shaft and the machineinput shaft.4. Measure the same dimensions on the compresseddrive line.5. If the compressed drive line dimension (B) exceedsthe machine dimension (A), the drive line will haveto be cut.Fig. 6 – Machine dimensions (A), anduncut driveline dimension (B)When cutting the drive line, follow thisprocedure:6. Subtract the machine dimension (A) from the uncutdrive line dimension (B) or (B–A = C).7. Add one inch (25 mm) to dimension (C) todetermine the Cut Off dimension.8. Use a hacksaw to cut dimension (C) from bothends. Cut both the plastic tubes and the metalcores.Fig. 7 – Cut Off dimension CFig. 8 – Shortened drive line
