Neveroperate the engine of the towing vehicle ina closed building. The exhaust fumes maycause asphyxiation.• Never work under equipment unless it isblocked securely.• Always use personal protection devicessuch as eye, hand and hearing protectors,when performing any service or maintenancework. Use heavy gloves when handling sharpcomponents.• Where replacement parts are necessaryfor periodic maintenance and servicing,genuine factory replacement parts must beused to restore your equipment to originalspecifications. The manufacturer will notbe responsible for injuries or damagescaused by use of unapproved parts and/oraccessories.• A fire extinguisher and first aid kit shouldbe kept readily accessible while performingmaintenance on this equipment.• Periodically tighten all bolts, nuts andscrews and check that all electrical and fuelconnections are properly secured.• When completing a maintenance or serviceprocedure, make sure all safety shields anddevices are installed before placing unit inservice.15. Service and MaintenanceMAINTENANCE SAFETY15.1 ServiceBy following a careful service and maintenanceprogram for your machine, you will enjoy many yearsor trouble-free operation.15.1.1 Fluids and LubricantsGrease:Use an SAE multipurpose, high-temperature greasewith extreme pressure (EP) performance. Alsoacceptable is an SAE multipurpose lithium basegrease.Storing Lubricants:Your machine can operate at top efficiency only if cleanlubricants are used. Use clean containers to handle alllubricants. Store them in an area protected from dustmoisture and other contaminants.15.2 Greasing1. Use a hand-held grease gun for all greasing.2. Wipe grease fitting with a clean cloth beforegreasing, to avoid injecting dirt and grit.3. Replace and repair broken fittings immediately.4. If fittings will not take grease, remove and cleanthoroughly. Also clean lubricant passageway.Replace fittings if necessary.15.2.1 Servicing IntervalsSee 15.3 Maintenance Schedule on page 38 forservice interval information.
