1595-03009OPERATIONPump must have been correctly installedas described in "INSTALLATION" section.SEAL FLUSH1. If pump has the flush seal option, start flowof flush water (approximately 5 US gallonsper hour recommended rate).PRIME PUMP2. Flood pump casing with liquid BEFOREstarting pump to avoid damage to pumpparts. Fill supply tank with liquid; open supplyline valve (suction). Any air trapped in supplyline or casing should be vented. (Figure 16)PRIMING WITH OUTSIDE SOURCEFigure 16Figure 17The pump will not self prime if liquidsupply is below pump level. (Figure 17)3. Close discharge valve and open air vents.4. Open valve in outside supply line until liquidflows from vent valves.5. Close vent valves; than outside supply line.Use a type of check valve system to keep supplyline and pump casing flooded with liquid.Otherwise the pump must be primed beforeeach operation. (See Figure 12)6. Start pump motor.DISCHARGE VALVECHECK VALVESUPPLY VALVESHUTOFF VALVEOUTSIDE SUPPLYBY-PASS LINESHUTOFF VALVEDISCHARGEVALVEDISCHARGEVALVECHECKVALVEPUMP CHECK7. Check to see that liquid is flowing and that allpiping connections and seals are leak free. The pump may be operated against a closeddischarge for a short time, however continuedoperation will heat liquid in casing to boiling andlead to pump damage.8. Slowly open discharge valve until desired flowis obtained. Observe pressure gages and ifpressure is not attained quickly, stop pump andprime again.ABOVE SUPPLYPUMP BELOW SUPPLYPRIMING PUMPCHECK VALVEEXAMPLES ONLY
