3-1 6 System GuidePrinting and queue managementQueue managementThe Queue Manager window displays all the queues available onthe printer. Think of each queue as a virtual printer with uniquecharacteristics defined when the queue is created. The queue listdisplays the name, priority, and job acceptance and release statusfor any queues available on the system.Queue management involves creating and enabling queues toreceive jobs to help manage the flow of jobs through the printingsystem. Queues allow you to manage jobs by:• Controlling when to accept jobs from the network or host.• Controlling when to release jobs.• Defining default parameters (like 1- or 2-sided) for jobs.• Overriding job parameters.• Feeding from a specific tray rather than specifying a paperstock (generally used for LCDS jobs).Access Queue Manager by selecting [Queue: Queue Manager…]menu option, or the Queue Manager icon on the shortcut bar.Refer to FreeFlow Print Server Help for more information on theQueue Manager.Transaction printingFreeFlow Print Server handles transactional data such as XeroxLCDS and IBM IPDS. This section briefly covers considerationsfor these types of data streams, and cites references for moredetailed information.IPDS (Intelligent Printer Data Stream)IPDS, or Intelligent Printer Data Stream, is a print data streamdefined by IBM.IPDS is an optional feature for FreeFlow Print Server and isenabled by a single license called IPDS Interpreter License. Ifyour system does not have the IPDS license, the FreeFlow PrintServer IPDS dialogues and the FreeFlow Print Server IPSManager menu do not display on your system.IPDS data is a sequence of information transmitted by an IBMhost computer as directed by a host print application, such as thePrint Service Facility (PSF). In addition to delivering printinformation, the IPDS data stream performs printer controlfunctions and shares job status information.
