System Guide 3- 19Printing and queue managementLCDS (Line Conditioned Data Stream)LCDS (Line Conditioned Data Stream) jobs are accepted from achannel-attached mainframe, from networked workstations andfrom a tape client.The Process of Printing an LCDS JobBefore LCDS data can be sent to the printer, the printer operatormust perform the following tasks:• Load all the resources on the printer. These resources includefonts, images, forms, and the printing instructions.Every LCDS job requires resources such as fonts, images,forms, logos, and a JSL. These resources must be loaded atthe workstation prior to running the job. You can view and printa list of LCDS resources on the system.• Set up the trays• Activate the queue• Load the paper for the job to print properlyWhen the printer is set up for a job's requirements, the hostoperator can send the job data. When printing is complete, theprinter operator performs procedures to end the data transfer. Thiscan be done automatically by a timer or by a command in the datastream.NOTE: Sometimes LCDS jobs are so large that they can fill orexceed the hard disk capacity of the system. The Job Partitioningfeature enables the system to manage the internal disk capacity.Select [Setup: System Preferences] and select the Job Policy tabto make partitioning selections.To view LCDS resources1. Select [Administration > LCDS Resources…] menuoption. The LCDS Resources window opens.2. Determine where the resources are located and select onefrom the Source drop-down list:• System• Unix File System• CD-ROM3. Select the [Types…] button to view the System ResourceTypes. Select one of the following:• User Specified• Library4. Right-click on any resource and select [Properties] menuoption to view the properties of that resource.
