Maintenance77To check the spark plug1. Check the condition of the spark plug. Ifelectrode erosion becomes excessive orcarbon and other deposits are exces-sive, replace the spark plug with thespecified plug.2. Measure the spark plug gap using athickness gauge. If the spark plug gap isout of specification, replace the sparkplug with the specified plug.To install the spark plug1. Wipe off any dirt from the threads, insu-lator, and gasket surface of the sparkplug.2. Install the spark plug, and then tighten itto the specified torque.TIP:If a torque-wrench is not available when youare reinstalling a spark plug, a good estimateof the correct torque is 1/12 turn past finger-tight. When you are installing a new sparkplug, a good estimate of the correct torque is1/2 to 2/3 turn past finger-tight.3. Install the ignition coil, and then tightenthe bolt to the specified torque.4. Install the ECM cover.5.
