Maintenance57CAUTION:ECM01240Change the engine oil after the first 10hours of operation, and every 100 hours orat 6-month intervals thereafter. Otherwisethe engine will wear quickly.NOTE:Change the engine oil when the oil is stillwarm.The engine oil can be extracted with an oilchanger (recommended), or drained by re-moving the oil drain screw.Extracting the oil with an oil changer (normaloil change)1. Put the outboard motor in an upright po-sition (not tilted).2. Pull out the dipstick and use the oilchanger to extract the oil.3. Remove the oil filler cap. Add the correctamount of oil through the filler hole, andinstall the filler cap.CAUTION:ECM00970 Do not overfill the oil, and be sure theoutboard motor is upright (not tilted)when checking and changing the engineoil. If the oil level is above the upper levelmark, drain until the level meets thespecified capacity. Overfilling the oilcould cause leakage or damage.4. Remove oil dipstick and wipe it clean.5. Completely insert the dipstick and re-move it again.6. Check the oil level using the dipstick to besure the level falls between the upper lev-el mark “ ” and lower level mark “ ” . Fillwith oil if it is below the lower level mark“ ” , or drain to the specified level if it isabove the upper level mark “ ” .1.
