For idle speed specifica-tions, see page 9.EMU29077Changing engine oilChange the engine oil several minutes afterthe engine has been stopped, so that the oilis still warm, but not hot.WARNINGEWM01950Be sure the outboard motor is securelyfastened to the transom or a stable stand.NOTICEECM01710Change the engine oil after the first 20hours of operation or 3 months, and ev-ery 100 hours or at 1-year intervals there-after. Otherwise the engine will wearquickly.1. Put the outboard motor in an upright po-sition (not tilted). NOTICE: If the motoris not level, the oil level indicated onthe dipstick may not be accurate.[ECM01860]2. Prepare a suitable container that holds alarger amount than the engine oil capac-ity. Loosen and remove the drain screwwhile holding the container under thedrain hole. Then remove the oil filler cap.Let the oil drain completely. Wipe up anyspilled oil immediately.3. Put a new gasket on the oil drain screw.Apply a light coat of oil to the gasket andinstall the drain screw.TIP:If a torque wrench is not available when youare installing the drain screw, finger tightenthe screw just until the gasket comes intocontact with the surface of the drain hole.Then tighten 1/4 to 1/2 turn more. Tightenthe drain screw to the correct torque with atorque wrench as soon as possible.4. Add the correct amount of oil through thefiller hole. Install the filler cap.
