Donot use oils with a diesel speci-fication of “CD” or oils of a high-er quality than specified. Inaddition, do not use oils labeled“ENERGY CONSERVING II” orhigher. Make sure that no foreign mate-rial enters the crankcase.10. Start the engine, and then let it idlefor several minutes while checkingit for oil leakage. If oil is leaking, im-mediately turn the engine off andcheck for the cause.TIPAfter the engine is started, the engineoil level warning light should go off if theoil level is sufficient.NOTICEECA10401If the oil level warning light flickersor remains on even if the oil level iscorrect, immediately turn the engineoff and have a Yamaha dealer checkthe vehicle.11. Turn the engine off, wait a few min-utes until the oil settles, and thencheck the oil level and correct it ifnecessary.EAU20070CoolantThe coolant level should be checkedbefore each ride. In addition, the cool-ant must be changed at the intervalsspecified in the periodic maintenanceand lubrication chart.EAU39087To check the coolant level1. Place the vehicle on a level sur-face and hold it in an upright posi-tion.TIP The coolant level must be checkedon a cold engine since the levelvaries with engine temperature. Make sure that the vehicle is posi-tioned straight up when checkingthe coolant level. A slight tilt to theside can result in a false reading.2.
