Special features3-13EAUM4860Traction control systemThe traction control system helpsmaintain traction when accelerating onslippery surfaces, such as unpaved orwet roads. If sensors detect that therear wheel is starting to slip (uncon-trolled spinning), the traction controlsystem assists by regulating enginepower as needed until traction is re-stored.When traction control has engaged, the “ ” indicator light will flash. Youmay notice changes in engine re-sponse or exhaust sounds.WARNINGEWA18860The traction control system is not asubstitute for riding appropriatelyfor the conditions. Traction controlcannot prevent loss of traction dueto excessive speed when enteringturns, when accelerating hard at asharp lean angle, or while braking, and cannot prevent front wheel slip-ping. As with any vehicle, approachsurfaces that may be slippery withcaution and avoid especially slip-pery surfaces.Setting the traction control systemWhen the vehicle is turned on, tractioncontrol is automatically turned on.The traction control system can beturned on/off, see page 4-11.TIP Turn the traction control systemoff to help free the rear wheel if thevehicle gets stuck in mud, sand, orother soft surfaces. When the vehicle is on the center-stand, do not rev the engine for anextended period of time. Other-wise, the traction control systemwill automatically disable andneed to be reset.NOTICEECA16801Use only the specified tires. (Seepage 7-15.) Using different sizedtires will prevent the traction controlsystem from controlling tire rotationaccurately.Resetting the traction control sys-temThe traction control system will auto-matically disable under certain condi-tions; such as when a sensor fault isdetected, or when only one wheel is al-lowed to rotate for more than a fewseconds. Should this happen, the “ ” indicator light will come on.If the traction control system automat-ically disables, reset it by riding undernormal conditions.TIPIf the “ ” indicator light remains on,the vehicle may still be ridden; howev-er, have a Yamaha dealer check thevehicle as soon as possible.
