8-12ESU04593Changing the engine oilIt is recommended to have a Yamaha dealer change theengine oil.WARNING@Engine oil is extremely hot immediately after theengine is turned off. Coming into contact with or get-ting any engine oil on your clothes could result inburns.@CAUTION:@ Do not run the engine with too much or notenough oil in the oil tank. Oil could spray out orthe engine could be damaged. Be sure to change the engine oil after the first800 km (500 mi) of operation, and every 4,000 km(2,500 mi) thereafter or at the start of a new sea-son, otherwise the engine will wear quickly. The oil filter cartridge should be replaced every20,000 km (12,000 mi) of operation. Have aYamaha dealer replace the oil filter cartridge.@To change the engine oil (without oil filter cartridgereplacement)1. Place the snowmobile on a level surface and applythe parking brake.2. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, andthen turn it off.3. Remove the shroud and the right side cover. (Seepages 8-5–8-7 for removal procedures.)4. Remove the bottom panel 1 and the lower right sidecover 2.5. Place oil pans under both the engine and the oil tankto collect the used oil.6. Disconnect the oil level gauge coupler 3.7.
