Use a maintenance stand to raise the frontwheel off the ground.WARNINGEWA13120Securely support the vehicle so that there isno danger of it falling over.2. Remove:• Ring nut “1”TIPRemove the ring nut with the steering nutwrench “2”.WARNINGEWA13730Securely support the lower bracket so thatthere is no danger of it falling.EAM30061CHECKING THE STEERING HEAD1. Wash with kerosene:• Bearing• Bearing race2. Check:• Bearing• Bearing raceDamage/pitting  Replace.3. Replace:• Bearing• Bearing racea. Remove the bearing race from the steer-ing head pipe “1” with a long rod “2” and ahammer.b. Remove the bearing race from the lowerbracket “3” with a chisel “4” and a hammer.c. Install a new bearing race.NOTICEECA14270If the bearing race is not installed properly,the steering head pipe could be damaged.TIPAlways replace the bearing and the bearing raceas a set.4. Check:• Upper bracket• Lower bracket(along with the steering stem)Bends/cracks/damage  Replace.EAM30062INSTALLING THE STEERING HEAD1.
