Periodic maintenance and adjustment7-217EAU51721Changing the brake fluidHave a Yamaha dealer change thebrake fluid at the intervals specified inthe periodic maintenance and lubrica-tion chart. In addition, have the oil sealsof the master cylinders and calipers aswell as the brake hoses replaced at theintervals listed below or whenever theyare damaged or leaking. Oil seals: Replace every twoyears. Brake hoses: Replace every fouryears.EAU22762Drive chain slackThe drive chain slack should bechecked before each ride and adjustedif necessary.EAU84400To check the drive chain slack1. Place the motorcycle on a suitablestand. (See page 7-28.)2. Confirm the rear wheel is off theground and the rear shock ab-sorber is fully extended.3. Shift the transmission into neutral.4. Pull up the drive chain until thechain is taut, and then measuredistance A between the top of theswingarm and the bottom of thechain as shown.5. If the drive chain slack is incorrect,adjust it as follows. NOTICE: Im-proper drive chain slack willoverload the engine as well asother vital parts of the motorcy-cle and can lead to chain slip-page or breakage.
