GM Series Operation Manual 9GM Series Operation ManualPRODUCT OVERVIEWYANMAR GM FEATURESAND APPLICATIONSThe GM series are four-stroke swirlpre-combustion chamber diesel enginesequipped with direct seawater coolingsystems. The 1GM10 is a naturally aspirated1-cylinder engine equipped with a KM2Pmarine gear. The 1GM10C is a naturally aspirated1-cylinder engine equipped with an SD20sail-drive.The 1GM10V is a naturally aspirated1-cylinder engine equipped with a KM3Vmarine gear. The engines are equipped with a marinegear or sail-drive unit. These engines are designed for pleasurecraft use.It is recommended that new vessels bepropped so the engines can operate at 100to 200 min -1 above the Maximum RatedPower Output engine speed (3700 to3800) to allow for some added weight andhull resistance. The engine must be able toreach the Maximum Rated Power Output(3600 min-1 ) under full load at all times.Failure to do so can lead to reduced vesselperformance and increased smoke levels, and can cause permanent damage to yourengine, which is not covered by warranty. The engine must be installed correctly withcoolant lines, exhaust gas lines andelectrical wiring. Any auxiliary equipmentattached to the engine should be easy touse and accessible for service. To handlethe drive equipment, propulsion systems(including the propeller) and other onboardequipment, always observe theinstructions and cautions given in theoperation manuals supplied by theshipyard and original equipmentmanufacturers. The GM series engines are designed to beoperated at maximum throttle (3600 min -1)for less than 5% of total engine time (30minutes out of every 10 hours) andcruising speed (3400 min -1 or less). The laws of some countries may requirehull and engine inspections, depending onthe use, size and cruising area of the boat. The structural design, vessel applicationand installation of this engine all requirespecialized knowledge and engineeringskills.
