BEFORE YOU OPERATEGM Series Operation Manual 2912/05To fill the fuel tank:WARNINGFire and Explosion Hazard.Operate bilge ventilation (blowers) for aminimum of 5 minutes to purge fumesfrom engine compartment afterrefueling. Never operate bilge blowerwhile refueling. Doing so can pumpexplosive fumes into the enginecompartment and result in anexplosion.1. Clean the area around the fuel cap.2. Remove the fuel cap from the fuel tank.3. Fill the tank with clean fuel free of oiland dirt.WARNINGFire and Explosion Hazard.Hold the hose nozzle firmly againstthe filler port while filling. Thisprevents static electricity buildupwhich could cause sparks and ignitefuel vapors.4. Stop fueling when the gauge shows thefuel tank is full.WARNINGFire and Explosion Hazard.Never overfill the fuel tank.5. Replace the fuel cap and hand-tighten.Over-tightening the fuel cap willdamage it.ENGINE OILEngine Oil SpecificationsNOTICEOnly use the engine oil specified. Otherengine oils may affect warranty coverage,cause internal engine components to seizeand / or shorten engine life. Never mixdifferent types of engine oil. This mayadversely affect the lubricating propertiesof the engine oil.Use an engine oil that meets or exceedsthe following guidelines and classifications:• API Service Categories: CC or higherTBN value: 9 or moreThe oil must be changed when the TotalBase Number (TBN) has been reducedto 2.0.TBN (mgKOH/g) test method: JISK-2501–5.2–2(HCI), ASTM D4739(HCI)• Recommended SAE Viscosity: 10W30,15W40. Engine oil 10W30 and 15W40can be used throughout the year.• Never use API Service Category CG-4or CH-4 oils.NOTICE• Be sure the engine oil, engine oil storagecontainers and engine oil fillingequipment are free of sediment or water.• Change the engine oil after the first 50hours of operation and then at every 150hours thereafter.
