Instead of collectingthe grass clippings in a grass catcher, some mowermodels have the option of recirculating the clippingsback to the lawn. This is called mulching.Throttle ControlYour unit is equipped with one of three throttle controlsdescribed below. Follow instructions which pertain toyour unit.1. The throttle control is located on the left side of theupper handle. It is used to regulate the enginespeed.2. The throttle control is located on the engine. It isused to regulate the engine speed.3. Your engine is equipped with a constant speedthrottle, which is set at full throttle for bestperformance.WARNING: The throttle control cannot beused to stop the engine. If the throttlecontrol is located on the engine, do notadjust it with the engine running.Cutting Height Adjustment LeverThis lever, located at each wheel, lets you adjustcutting height of the grass. Remember to put all fourlevers at the same height to avoid uneven cut.SECTION 5: OPERATING YOUR LAWN MOWERWARNING: Keep hands and feet awayfrom the chute area on cutting deck. Theblade will be rotating whenever the engineis running.NOTE: For shipping purposes your mower is set withthe wheels in a low cutting height position. For bestresults, raise the cutting position until it is determinedwhich height is best for your lawn. Refer to instructionsfor cutting height adjustment on page 11.Gas and Oil Fill-UpService the engine with gasoline and oil asinstructed in the separate engine manual packed withyour mower. Follow instructions carefully.WARNING: Never fill fuel tank indoors,with engine running or until the enginehas been allowed to cool for at least twominutes after running.Before Starting• Attach spark plug wire to spark plug. If unit isequipped with a rubber boot over the spark plugwire, ensure that the metal cap on the end of thespark plug wire (inside the rubber boot) is fastenedsecurely over the metal tip on the spark plug.To Start Engine and Engage Blade• Move throttle control lever (if equipped) to the fast(rabbit) position.• If engine is equipped with a primer, prime engine asinstructed in the separate engine manual packedwith your unit.• Standing behind the unit, depress the blade controlhandle and hold it against the upper handle.• Grasp starter handle and pull rope out slowly untilengine reaches start of compression cycle (ropewill pull slightly harder at this point). Let the roperewind slowly.• Pull rope with a rapid, continuous, full arm stroke.Keep a firm grip on starter handle. Return it slowlyto the rope guide.NOTE: If any problems are encountered, refer to theTrouble Shooting Guide.To Stop Engine and Blade• Release the blade control handle to stop the engineand blade.WARNING: The blade continues to rotatefor a few seconds after engine is shut off.•Disconnect the spark plug wire and ground itagainst the engine to prevent accidental startingwhile equipment is unattended.Using Your Rotary MowerWARNING: Never operate your unit withouteither the rear deflector or entire grasscatcher assembly in place.• Be sure that lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wire, orother objects which could damage lawn mower orengine. Such objects could be accidentally thrownby the mower in any direction and cause seriouspersonal injury to the operator and others.• For best results, do not cut wet grass because ittends to stick to the underside of the mower,preventing proper discharge of grass clippings, andcould cause you to slip and fall. New grass, thickgrass or wet grass may require a narrower cut.
