16DECK ENGAGEMENT ADJUSTMENTThe cutting deck engagement may be adjusted tomake certain deck is disengaged when lift lever is inthe BLADES STOP position. Correct adjustment asfollows. With the engine off, place the lift lever in the highestcutting position (first position). Remove the cotterpin and flat washer which secure thedisengagement rod to the stabilizer shaft assembly.See Figure 16. Shorten the rod by threading it inuntil the ferrule is against the back of the slot in thelift shaft assembly, and the rod lines up with thehole in the stabilizer shaft. For more belt tension thedisengagement rod must be lengthened. Todecrease belt tension the disengagement rod mustbe shortened.Check the adjustment by placing the lift lever in theBLADES STOP position. The deck should move upand forward, allowing the belt to become loose.Start and test for disengagement. Repeat procedureas necessary.Figure 16SPEED CONTROL ADJUSTMENT(See Figure 17)NOTE:When operating the unit initially or afterreplacing the belts, there will be little differencebetween the highest two speeds until after the beltshave gone through a break-in period and haveseated themselves into the pulleys. If the full range of speeds cannot be obtained on yourunit, adjust the speed control as follows.1. Adjust the speed control lever by pushing theclutch-brake pedal forward until the stop on thebrake rod is against the frame. See Figure 17.Have another person hold the pedal in thisposition as you make the following adjustment.Place the speed control lever in parking brakeposition. Remove the hairpin clip and flatwasher, and adjust the ferrule on the rod so it isagainst the back end of the slot. See Figure 17.Then lengthen rod one more turn. Reassembleand secure with the flat washer and hairpin clip.2. Adjust the speed control link as follows to obtainthe correct neutral adjustment.A. Start the engine.B. Place the shift lever in Neutral position.C. Place the speed control lever in high speedposition.D. Release the clutch-brake pedal completely, then slowly depress the pedal all the way (topark position). Hold the pedal in this position.E. Turn the engine off.F. After engine stops completely, release theclutch-brake pedal.G. Place speed control lever in second position.H. Remove the cotter pin and flat washer whichsecures the speed control link to the variablespeed torque bracket assembly.I. Push the clutch-brake pedal backward byhand as far as it will go using light pressure.Hold it in this position as you thread thespeed control link in or out of the ferrule untilit lines up with the pin on the variable speedtorque bracket assembly.J. Secure speed control link to variable speedtorque bracket assembly with flat washer andcotter pin.Stabilizer ShaftAssemblyDisengagementRodFlat WasherHairpin ClipStabilizer ShaftAssemblyDisengagementRodFlat WasherHairpin Clip38" DecksSpringStabilizer Plate42" and46" Decks
