30SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTSitting on the seat, in the operators position,press both control levers forward. If both controllevers line up with each other, then noadjustment is needed. If they do not line up,follow instructions below.TO ADJUST CONTROL LEVERS(See Fig. 2)TO REMOVE WHEELS FORREPAIRREAR TIRESIMPORTANT: Block front tires to prevent themower from rolling.• Park mower on a level surface and applypark brake.• Jack up the rear end of the mower on theside of the damaged tire.• Park mower on a level surface and applypark brake.• Jack up the front end of the mower.• Using a 3/4" wrench and/or socket w/drive ratchet, remove hex nut and hexbolt from the caster fork.• Remove the tire from the fork.FRONT CASTER TIRES• Identify which control lever moves furtherforward.• Using a 9/16" wrench, slightly loosen thebottom hex bolt (about 1/2 turn) on theopposite control lever.• Move both control levers to the frontagain and apply more pressure to thecontrol lever that you loosened to bringthe two control levers in line with eachother.• Tighten hex bolts.NOTE: To seal tire punctures and prevent flattires due to slow leaks, tire sealant may bepurchased from your local parts dealer. Tiresealer also prevents tire dry rot and corrosion.TO START AN ENGINE WITH AWEAK BATTERYWARNINGLead-acid batteries generate explosivegases. Keep sparks, flame and smokingmaterials away from batteries. Always weareye protection when around batteries.If your battery is too weak to start the engine, itshould be recharged. (See “BATTERY” in theCustomer Responsibilities section of thismanual).If “jumper cables” are used for emergencystarting, follow this procedure:IMPORTANT: YOUR MOWER IS EQUIPPEDWITH A 12-VOLT NEGATIVE GROUNDEDSYSTEM. THE OTHER VEHICLE MUST ALSOBE A 12-VOLT NEGATIVE GROUNDEDSYSTEM. DO NOT USE YOUR MOWERBATTERY TO START OTHER VEHICLES.• Remove 4 lug nuts to allow wheelremoval• Repair tire.• Reassemble in reverse order of previousstepsTO ADJUST THE SEAT (See Fig. 1)• Move the control levers into the neutralposition and rotate to the outside of themachine.• Lift up on the back of the seat and rotateit forward.• Loosen the three prong knobs on thebottom of the seat and move the seat tothe desired position.• Tighten the three prong knobs and rotateseat back to the operating position.• Remove the spacer from the inside ofthe caster rim.• Repair tire• Reassemble in the reverse order of theprevious steps.
