18Before any maintenance or cleaning can becarried out, you must DISCONNECT thecooker from the electricity supply.The Hob TopThe hob is best cleaned whilst it is still warm, asspillage can be removed more easily than if it is leftto cool.Regularly wipe over the hob top using a soft clothwell wrung out in warm water to which a littlewasing up liquid has been added. Avoid the use of thefollowing:- household detergent and bleaches;- impregnated pads unsuitable for non-stick saucepans;- steel wool pads;- bath/sink stain removers.Should the hob top become heavily soiled, it isrecommended that a cleaning product such as HobBrite or Bar Keepers Friend is used.The HotplatesSpills onto the actual plate should be removed usingwarm water and a soft brush, nylon or plastic scourer.To keep the plates looking as new, hotplateconditioner can be purchased from most hardwarestores, e.g. "4 Hob" by HomeCare Products (followthe manufacturer's instruction for use).Alternatively, wipe the plates with a drop of olive oilon a kitchen towel to avoid rust. It is important tonote that the plate will smoke a little and produce aslightly unpleasant odour when next used.DryingImportant: After cleaning, dry the hotplatesthoroughly by switching on to a low-medium settingfor a few minutes.Maintenance and CleaningRestoringTo maintain the appearance of your sealed hotplatesapply a little salt-free vegetable oil or restorativeagent (i.e. "Collo Electrol", or Minky HotplateCleaning Cloths) periodically.To apply vegetable oil: first heat the hotplate on amedium setting for 30 seconds then turn off. Pour avery small amount of salt-free oil onto a dry cloth orkitchen paper. Apply a thin coat of oil to the hotplatesurface and wipe off any excess. Heat the hotplate ona medium setting for 1 minute.To apply restorative agent: first heat the hotplate on amedium setting for 30 seconds then turn off. Apply avery thin coating of Collo Electrol (using theapplicator). Heat the hotplate on a high setting for 2-3minutes to cure. Some smoke will occur, this isnormal and nontoxic. (NB: this product is a resorativeagent not a cleanser. It is available from hardwarestores).Stainless steel parts: the stainless steel spill rings maybecome straw coloured with use. Use a proprietarystainless steel cleaner to remove this strawdiscolouration. This also applies to the area aroundthe hotplates on stainless steel hobs.
