26Slow cookThe slow cook setting gives a very low heat inthe oven. It is particularly useful when you arecooking soups, stews and casseroles becausethe long slow cooking will make cheaper,tougher cuts of meat more tender.Some foods such as pastry and biscuits are notsuitable for slow cooking because thetemperature is too low. Cover all food duringcooking to prevent it from drying out. You canuncover food for the last half hour if it isnormally served golden brown.Using slow cookYou need to cook food at 170 o C for 30 minutes before you turn the oven down to the slow cooksetting.
