M-30-1382-en S8 / S81 Ceiling Mounts Issue 12.0Printed on 19. 11. 2007Installation on an existing substructure 99Installation optionsIf certain requirements are met, the S8 and S81 ceiling mounts can be in-stalled on existing substructures provided for the S23, EMD2, S5, S51, S6or S61 ceiling mount.A special mounting kit is available for installing the S8 and S81 ceilingmounts on existing substructures (pre-installation sets of earlier ceilingmounts). A major part of the special mounting kit is the adapter plate. Inthis application, the adapter plate replaces the mount flange included inthe standard delivery package of the ceiling mount. The disciplines concerned are ophthalmic surgery, ENT surgery and P&Rsurgery.Note:Use this special mounting kit only if the pre-installation set for new instal-lations (Cat. No. 1078-181) cannot be installed in the OR.Only the pre-installation set for new installations ensures the typicalworking distances (microscope axis - pivot axis 1) of 1,250 mm (49.2") forthe S8 ceiling mount or 1,000 mm (39.4") for the S81 ceiling mount, seepage 21 and page 23.Working rangesThe EMD2 and S23 ceiling mounts have been designed for an optimumworking distance (center of mount flange to microscope axis) of 650 mm(25.6"). With a stationary operating table, working ranges of 900 mm(35.4") can be achieved if the adapter plate is rotated through 180°. If, inaddition, the adapter plate is mounted with an offset of 90 mm (3.5"), theworking range can be increased to 990 mm (39").Note:The recommended typical working ranges (= distance of pivot axis 1 tomicroscope axis) for the S8 S81 ceiling mounts are:e 1,250 mm ± 500 mm (49.2 ± 19.7") for the S8 ceiling mount.e 1,000 mm ± 400 mm (39.4" ± 15.7") for the S81 ceiling mount. This means that an S8 ceiling mount will be at its rear mechanical limit po-sition in this type of installation, see illustration on page 102.
