VersaMail® application 86CHAPTER 7 Advanced TopicsUsing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol designed to ensure that data you send or receive over anetwork or the Internet is secure and authentic. The VersaMail application uses SSL to helpguarantee the secure transmission of email messages that you send or receive. When you set upan account in the VersaMail application, you are given the option of selecting SSL for incomingand outgoing mail. For most email providers that support SSL, you must select SSL for bothincoming and outgoing mail. If you select just one or the other, your messages cannot be sent orreceived successfully. If you set up an account that uses an SSL connection on Outlook, Outlook Express, or Eudora, thenSSL is supported in the VersaMail conduit when you synchronize with that account as well.IMPORTANT[ ! ]
