If the card installation is unsuccessful for any reason, your best coursemay be to remove the card and its software and repeat the installation procedureswith a fresh installation of the operating system. Possible problems may beindicated if: The card is not working. Windows ME or 98 is not detecting the card. LEDson the PC Card,connector, or networkadapter cable are off ormismatch the realnetwork speed.Use Control Panel/System/Device Manager to inspect the status ofyour LAN card.If you see a red “X”, enable the card by checking the appropriatebox under Properties.If you see a yellow exclamation mark, click the icon to see whatthe conflict is. Verify that there are adequate system resources. Tryto free system resources (for example, disable the infrared port),then remove and reinstall the card.Losing networkconnection afterdisconnecting or changingthe media speed.This can occur when using NetWare servers and IPX/SPX protocol.It happens when the frame type is selected automatically. Atemporary solution is to reboot after disconnecting andreconnecting the cable in NetWare networks. The permanentsolution is to use specific frame types such as 802.2 or 802.3.
