737 Configuring the NICThis chapter describes how to configure the NIC.Default NIC SettingsThe table below lists the configuration settings for the NIC. The default setting is shown inuppercase in the Settings column.NOTE: Before you change the NIC configuration settings, contact your systemadministrator.Option Description SettingsNetBoot ROM Provides the ability to boot a PC over the network. Enables ordisables the Netboot ROM (if a boot ROM is installed on the NIC). DISABLED EnabledDuplex Determines if the NIC transmits data across the network in bothdirections simultaneously (full-duplex) or in one direction at atime (half-duplex). Auto Select allows the NIC to automatically connect at theduplex mode of the connected hub or switch. When youselect this setting, the Media Type is automatically set toAuto Select. Full-Duplex sets the NIC to operate in full-duplex mode. Touse this setting, the switch that you are connected to mustsupport full-duplex. You must also manually set the NICMedia Type setting. Half-Duplex sets the NIC to operate in half-duplex mode. Youmust also set the NIC Media Type setting.Note: If you are running Windows 2000, changes made to theDuplex setting though the 3Com NIC Diagnostics are notreflected in the registry unless you also change the Media Selectproperty setting in Windows 2000:1 In the Device Manager window, double-click Networkadapters.2 Right-click the 3C990B NIC and select Properties.3 Select the Advanced tab.4 Select Media Select in the property list, and make theappropriate setting change in the Value list.
