Telephone Installation 933Com 2101Basic TelephoneThe easiest way to install any 3Com telephone assumes that thetelephone obtains an IP address from a DHCP server. If your network doesnot provide IP addresses through a DHCP server, you must manuallyconfigure the IP address of the telephone.Configuring the 3Com 2101 Telephone with a DHCP ServerTo configure the 3Com 2101 Basic Telephone:CAUTION: Do not connect an Ethernet cable to the telephone until afteryou have configured the IP address of the primary and alternate VCX CallProcessors.1 Plug the power cord into an AC power receptacle.2 Plug the other end of the power cord into the power connector on thetelephone.3 Press the Msg (message) button, located below the up and down arrowbuttons.4 Press 5 (Set NCP IP).5 Enter the IP address of the primary VCX Call Processor.VCX systems typically have two Call Processor servers. One is the primaryserver and the other is the alternate server, which is available for fail-overpurposes.6 Press # to save the new setting.7 Press the Msg (message) button.8 Press 6 (VCX Cnfig Menu).9 Press 1 (Alt Dnld Servr).10 Enter the IP address of the Alternate Call Processor Server.11 Press # to save the new setting.12 Connect the Ethernet data cable to the telephone.13 Disconnect and reconnect the telephone power cord.The telephone:■ Obtains an IP address from a DHCP in your network.■ Contacts the primary Call Processor server and begins to downloadthe appropriate software.
