There are a number of important topicsin this chapter and we strongly urge that you review it before attemptingto install the motherboard.4.2 Pre-installation PreparationBefore you install the motherboard you will need to do the following:1. Install a 478-pin Intel Pentium 4 CPU2. Install DDR DIMM system memory modulesBoth of these require specific procedures that you must follow preciselyto insure that the components are successfully installed and work prop-erly. Please review the instructions in this section in detail and followthem carefully. The procedures are not complex.4.2.1 Installing A CPUThis motherboard uses the 478-pin Intel Pentium 4 processor.To install an Intel Pentium 4 CPU on the motherboard it is very importantto precisely and entirely follow the procedure for installing both the CPUand its cooling assembly. Failure to do so can result in either improperoperation or damage to the CPU and possibly the motherboard.To install an Intel Pentium 4 processor on this motherboard you will needto do the following:• Install a Pentium 4 processor in the mPGA478 socket• Install the Heatsink/Retention MechanismPlease follow the procedure detailed below to install the Pentium 4 pro-cessor on the board. Intel boxed Pentium 4 processors come with fullinstallation instructions. If you have these, please also read and followthose instructions carefully.
