4 TRANSPORTING THE PEDELECRemove the battery before transportation andtransport it separately. Cover the contacts with atransport cap to prevent the risk of a shortcircuit. In the case of a short circuit, there is arisk of injury and fire.4.1 By carYou can transport your Pedelec by car as youwould a normal pedelec. The weight of thePedelec will call for a heavier-duty rack.4.2 By public transportThe same regulations apply as when transportinga bicycle. For safety reasons, remove the batterybefore entering a train with the Pedelec, and donot put it back until you have dismounted.4.3 By airplaneThe battery must be considered as a hazard-ous material. It must be carried as such. Pleaseconsult your airline.5 DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONSIf parts of your Pedelec are replaced, please takenote of the waste disposal instructions for yourlocal waste disposal company. Used batteriesand accumulators must not be disposed of withnormal household waste.Every consumer is obliged by law to dispose ofused batteries at a collection point specifically forused batteries at a recycling center, battery trad-ing company, specialist dealer or manufacturer.Batteries containing harmful substances aremarked with a symbol consisting of a crossed-out waste bin and the chemical symbol (Cd, Hgor Pb) of the heavy metal which is responsible forits classification as a pollutant.For further information, please contact yourlocal waste disposal service or your municipaladministration.Waste batteries, accumulators with lead, NiMH(nickel metal hydride) or lithium-ion technologyare considered dangerous goods.Lithium-ion batteries should be isolated on eachpole with insulating tape to prevent short-circuiting, and potentially dangerous follow-upreactions. When transporting or transferring thebatteries to a waste disposal facility, the provi-sions of the ADR (regulations for the transport ofdangerous goods) apply.According to European Directive 2006/66/EC,defective or used batteries must not be used,and, in accordance with the European Directive2002/96/EC, electrical equipment that is nolonger usable must be collected separately andrecycled in an environmentally sound manner.The drive unit, battery, display, control element,accessories and packaging must be recycledin an environmentally sound manner.
