BabyLock.comPage 35Section 13: Adjustment of the Loop Lift and NeedleDistance (Continued) • Adjust the needle distance by sliding the hookaxially on the hook shaft toward the needle untilthe hook barely touches (lightly brushes) inside theneedle scarf NOTE: Because the fabric can displace theneedle during multi-directional sewing, it isnecessary for the needle to lightly brush thehook inside the needle scarf. Too much needledistance may cause skipped stitches andother stitching problems. If the hook brushesheavily against the hook, it can wear theneedle guard on the hook basket.• Check that the needle distance is correct by tap-ping on the needle with a small tool, e.g. the 2mm ball hex tool, to see if the needle moves. Ifit is touching it will make a hard metal on metalsound. If the needle is lightly touching then it willmove when the needle bar is pressed lightly on theback side towards the front of the machine. If youhave to push hard to get the needle to deflect thenthe needle is brushing hard against the hook. Theneedle should only lightly brush against the hookto prevent undesirable hook wear.• Lightly tighten the first screw with the 2 mm ballend L Allen tool, while providing resistance againstthe adjustment, by holding the hook in place withyour other hand. Carefully rotate the hook on thehook-shaft to set the loop lift. Carefully snug andthen tighten the first screw.• Remove the clamp• While holding the basket in the down positionand from turning, rotate the hand wheel until thesecond hook screw is accessible. Carefully snug, then tighten the second screw. If you push onthe tool while tightening, the hook may move, throwing the settings off.• Tighten both screws tight with the 2 mm handleAllen tool• Reset the loop lift clamp and gauge again to checkthat loop lift and needle distance are still correct.Hook screws without front coverThread cuttersHook Screw IMPORTANT: If loop lift, needle distance and needle height are not adjusted accurately, the machine mayskip stitches, shred thread or not sew.
