SmartSwitch Router User Reference Manual 253Chapter 18: IPX Routing Configuration GuideSpecifying IPX Encapsulation MethodThe SmartSwitch Router supports four encapsulation types for IPX. You can configureencapsulation type on a per-interface basis.• Ethernet II: The standard ARPA Ethernet Version 2.0 encapsulation, which uses a 16-bit protocol type code (the default encapsulation method)• 802.3 SNAP: SNAP IEEE 802.3 encapsulation, in which the type code becomes theframe length for the IEEE 802.2 LLC encapsulation (destination and source ServiceAccess Points, and a control byte)• 802.3: 802.3 encapsulation method used within Novell IPX environments• 802.2: 802.2 encapsulation method used within Novell IPX environmentsTo configure IPX encapsulation, enter the following commands in Configure mode:Configuring IPX RoutingBy default, IPX routing is enabled on the SSR.Enabling IPX RIPIPX RIP is enabled by default on the SSR. You must first create an IPX interface or assignan IPX interface to a VLAN before RIP will start learning routes.Enabling SAPIPX SAP is enabled by default on the SSR. You must first create an IPX interface or assignan IPX interface to a VLAN before SAP will start learning services.Configure Ethernet II encapsulation. interface create ipx output-mac-encapsulation ethernet_IIConfigure 802.3 SNAP encapsulation. interface create ipx output-mac-encapsulation ethernet_snapConfigure 802.3 IPX encapsulation. interface create ipx output-mac-encapsulationethernet_802.3Configure 802.2 IPX encapsulation. interface create ipx output-mac-encapsulationethernet_802.2_ipx
