Speedometer and OdometerThe speedometer lets you see your speed in eithermiles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (km/h).The odometer shows how far your vehicle has beendriven, in either miles (used in the United States)or kilometers (used in Canada). If your vehicle has to have a new odometer installed, the new one may read the correct mileage. This isbecause your vehicle’s computer has stored the mileagein memory. While the Driver Shift Control (DSC) feature is active, the odometer will change to show the gear range.See Automatic Transmission Operation on page 2-26 formore information.Trip OdometersThe trip odometer can record the number of miles orkilometers traveled for up to two trips. The trip odometer is part of the Driver InformationCenter (DIC), for more information see Status of VehicleSystems on page 3-54.For vehicles equipped with the navigation system, seeyour Navigation System manual for more information.TachometerThis gage indicates the engine speed in revolutions perminute (rpm).Notice: If you operate the engine with thetachometer in the shaded warning area, your vehiclecould be damaged, and the damages would notbe covered by your warranty. Do not operatethe engine with the tachometer in the shadedwarning area.Engine Speed LimiterThis feature prevents the engine from operating at toomany revolutions per minute (rpm). When the engine’srpms are too high, the throttle is closed to reducespeed. If this is not sufficient, then the fuel supply to theengine will be limited. When the rpms return tonormal, the fuel supply will return to normal. This helpsprevent damage to the engine.3-33
