If your vehicle has run-flat tires, the Tire PressureMonitor (TPM) system will need to have the sensorsreset after a tire rotation is performed. A special toolis needed to reset the sensor identification codes.See your dealer for service.Make certain that all wheel nuts are properly tightened.See “Wheel Nut Torque” under Capacities andSpecifications on page 5-114.{CAUTION:Rust or dirt on a wheel, or on the parts towhich it is fastened, can make wheel nutsbecome loose after a time. The wheel couldcome off and cause an accident. When youchange a wheel, remove any rust or dirt fromplaces where the wheel attaches to the vehicle.In an emergency, you can use a cloth or apaper towel to do this; but be sure to use ascraper or wire brush later, if needed, to getall the rust or dirt off. See Changing a Flat Tire(CTS Only) on page 5-84.When It Is Time for New TiresOne way to tell when it istime for new tires is tocheck the treadwearindicators, which willappear when your tireshave only 1/16 inch(1.6 mm) or less of treadremaining.You need a new tire if any of the following statementsare true:• You can see the indicators at three or more placesaround the tire.• You can see cord or fabric showing through thetire’s rubber.• The tread or sidewall is cracked, cut, or snaggeddeep enough to show cord or fabric.• The tire has a bump, bulge, or split.• The tire has a puncture, cut or other damage thatcannot be repaired well because of the size orlocation of the damage.5-73
