When replacing the fuel cap, turn it to the right(clockwise) until it clicks. It will require more effort toturn the fuel cap on the last turn as you tighten it. Makesure the cap is fully installed. The diagnostic systemcan determine if the fuel cap has been left off orimproperly installed. This would allow fuel to evaporateinto the atmosphere. See Malfunction Indicator Lampon page 3-40.{CAUTION:If a fire starts while you are refueling, do notremove the nozzle. Shut off the flow of fuelby shutting off the pump or by notifying thestation attendant. Leave the area immediately.Notice: If you need a new fuel cap, be sure to getthe right type. Your dealer can get one for you.If you get the wrong type, it may not fit properly.This may cause your malfunction indicator lamp tolight and may damage your fuel tank and emissionssystem. Static electricity discharge fromthe container can ignite the gasoline vapor.You can be badly burned and your vehicledamaged if this occurs. To help avoid injuryto you and others:• Dispense gasoline only into approvedcontainers.• Do not fill a container while it is inside avehicle, in a vehicle’s trunk, pickup bed oron any surface other than the ground.• Bring the fill nozzle in contact with theinside of the fill opening before operatingthe nozzle.
