82Use the self-timer when you want to be in the picture. The <Q> (10sec. timer) can be used in all shooting modes.1 Press the <R> button. (9)2 Select the self-timer. Look through the viewfinder, focusthe subject, then press the shutterbutton completely. You can check the self-timeroperation with the self-timer lamp,beeper, and countdown display (inseconds) on the LCD panel. Two seconds before the picture istaken, the self-timer lamp will stay onand the beeper will sound faster.j Using the Self-timer The <k> 2-sec. self-timer enables you to shoot while not touching thecamera mounted on a tripod. This prevents camera shake while youshoot still lifes or bulb exposures. After taking self-timer shots, you should check the image for proper focusand exposure (p.190). If you will not look through the viewfinder when you press the shutterbutton, attach the eyepiece cover (p.124). If stray light enters heviewfinder when the picture is taken, it may throw off the exposure. When using the self-timer to shoot only yourself, use focus lock (p.56) onan object at about the same distance as where you will stand. To cancel the self-timer after it starts, press he <R> button.
