Set your answering machine to answer.J The unit allows the answering machine to answer, then listens for a faxtone, and switches to receive mode automatically if it detects the tone.J The unit also listens for 6 seconds of silence, also an indication that a fax iscoming in. After 6 seconds of silence, the unit automatically switches toreceive mode.3. When not in use, turn the answering machine off and switch the mode toManual receive (MANUAL lamp on) or Automatic receive (both the ANSHOOK UP and MANUAL lamps off) using the ANS HOOK UP/MANUALbutton.Adjusting the MultiPASS L90 for Different Types ofAnswering MachinesSome answering machines listen for a pause and disconnect the line after acertain period of silence. When used with an answering machine, your unit alsolistens for a pause to determine if a fax is being received.If your answering machine disconnects before the unit has a chance to switch toreceive mode, the caller may not be able to send a fax on the same call.If you experience this problem, adjust the ANS/FAX SW TIME setting in theRECEIVE (RX) SETUP, (Qp. A-9). Adjust so that the required time for theunit to switch occurs prior to the time when your answering machine disconnectsautomatically.
