1-3Chapter 1 Before You Start Using the Scanner● Do not pull directly on the power cord. Whendisconnecting the power cord, grasp the plug andremove it from the outlet.● Keep the area around the power plug clear ofobjects so that the power cord can bedisconnected easily in an emergency.● If you have any questions regarding the powersupply, contact your local authorized Canon dealeror service representative for further information.Moving the Scanner● The scanner weights about 86 lbs (39 kg).To lift or move the scanner, always use twopeople, one on each side. Never attempt to lift thescanner by yourself. You could drop the scanner orpinch your fingers, resulting in personal injury ordamage to the scanner. Remember to be extracareful when moving it.● Make sure to disconnect the interface cable andpower cord when moving the scanner. If thescanner is carried with these items connected, theplugs and connectors may be damaged or causethe scanner to fall and result in personal injury ordamage to the scanner.HandlingWARNINGNote the following precautions whenever using thescanner. Failure to do so may result in a fire orelectric shock.■ Never use alcohol, benzene, paint thinner, aerosolsprays, or any other highly flammable substancenear the scanner.■ Do not cut, damage, or modify the power cord. Donot place heavy objects on the power cord, and donot pull or excessively bend the power cord.■ Never connect the power cord when your handsare wet.■ Do not connect the scanner to a multiplug powerstrip.■ Do not knot or coil the power cord, as this mayresult in a fire or electric shock. When connectingthe power cord, make sure that the power plug issecurely and completely inserted into the poweroutlet.■ To use a reel-type extension cord, unwind all of thecord from the reel. Long-term operation with thecord wound on the reel may cause the cord tooverheat and could cause a fire.■ Do not use power cords other than the power cordprovided with this scanner.■ Never try to take the scanner apart or modify it inany way, as this is dangerous and may lead to afire or electric shock.■ Do not use flammable aerosol sprays productsnear the scanner.■ When cleaning the scanner, turn the power switchOFF and disconnect the power cord from thepower supply.
