Overcurrent protectionThe frequency converter provides overload protection tolimit threats to human life, property damage and to avoidfire hazard due to overheating of the cables. The frequencyconverter is equipped with an internal overcurrentprotection (4-18 Current Limit) that can be used forupstream overload protection (UL applications excluded).Moreover, fuses or circuit breakers can be used to providethe overcurrent protection in the installation. Overcurrentprotection must always be carried out according tonational regulations.The tables in this section list the recommended ratedcurrent. Recommended fuses are of the type gG for smallto medium power sizes. For larger powers, aR fuses arerecommended. Use circuit breakers that meet the national/international regulations and that limit the energy into thefrequency converter to an equal or lower level than thecompliant circuit breakers.If fuses/circuit breakers are selected according torecommendations, possible damage on the frequencyconverter is mainly limited to damage inside the unit.Non-UL complianceIf UL/cUL is not to be complied with, use the followingfuses to ensure compliance with EN50178:P110-P250 380–480 V type gGP315-P450 380–480 V type gRTable 4.11 EN50178 FusesUL Compliance380–480 V, Enclosure types E and FThe fuses below are suitable for use on a circuit capable of delivering 100,000 Arms (symmetrical), 240 V, or 480 V, or 500 V,or 600 V depending on the frequency converter voltage rating.
