Remove all expansion cards installed in the computer (refer to “Removing Expan-sion Cards” in Chapter 2) except the video card to prevent a card that isincorrectly configured from causing an interrupt or input/output (I/O) portresource conflict.5. Replace the computer cover and support beam, connect all external cables, andturn on the system.6. Clear nonvolatile random-access memory (NVRAM) as described in “ClearingNVRAM” in Appendix B.7. Check the network connections if the network hardware is functional.a. Check the network card connector for physical damage.b. Ensure that the cable is inserted properly.c. Replace the patch cable or network cable from the wall jack to the computer.d. If replacing the patch cable or network cable does not solve the problem, trymoving the computer to another location on the network.e. If you still cannot connect to the network, ensure that the right drivers arebeing used.8. If the network card is still not detected, refer to Chapter 7, “Getting Help,” forinformation on obtaining technical assistance. If the network card is detected,repeat step 2.% A computer memory problem can be caused by a faulty dual in-line memory module(DIMM) or a faulty system board. If you received an error message after makingchanges in the system setup program, restore the original values and restart the sys-tem. If a random-access memory (RAM) error message appears, troubleshoot thememory by performing the following steps:1. Turn on the computer and monitor.2. If you hear a beep code or if you see a diagnostic code, refer to Appendix C,“Diagnostic Codes, Beep Codes, and System Messages.”
