this guide does not cover most of the features; it simply allows you to perform other configuration tasksusing a Telnet connection from your management network. To configure other features and interfaces,refer to the Dell Networking C9000 Series Configuration Guide.To perform the initial software configuration, you will need the following information from your networkadministrator:• Switch IP address• Subnet mask (IP netmask)• Default gateway (router)• Enable secret password• Enable password• Telnet passwordCommand ModesAfter you install the hardware and the boot process completes, the console monitor displays the CLIprompt for the EXEC command mode.You must move linearly through the command modes; for example:Prompt CLI Command ModeDell> EXECEnter enable to access EXEC Privilege mode.Dell# EXEC PrivilegeEnter configure to access CONFIGURATION mode.Dell(conf)# CONFIGURATIONEnter configure terminal batch to access CONFIGURATION BATCH mode.Dell(conf-b)# CONFIGURATION BATCHEnter the exit command to move back up one command mode level. Enter the end command to movedirectly to EXEC Privilege mode.Configuring the Enable PasswordTo access EXEC Privilege mode, you must use the enable command.Configure a password as a basic security measure. When using a console connection, EXEC Privilegemode is unrestricted by default; it cannot be reached by a VTY connection if you do not configure apassword.
