52 Quick Reference GuideBeep CodesYour computer might emit a series of beeps during start-up if the monitor cannot display errors orproblems. This series of beeps, called a beep code, identifies a problem. One possible beep code(code 1 3-1) consists of one beep, a burst of three beeps, and then one beep. This beep code tells youthat the computer encountered a memory problem.No memory modules are detected. • If you have one memory moduleinstalled, reinstall it and restart thecomputer. For information onreinstalling memory modules, see youronline User’s Guide.• If you have two or more memorymodules installed, remove the modules,reinstall one module, and then restartthe computer. If the computer startsnormally, reinstall an additional module.Continue until you have identified afaulty module or reinstalled all moduleswithout error.• If available, install properly workingmemory of the same type into yourcomputer.• If the problem persists, contact Dell.
