vSafety InstructionsUse the following safety guidelines to help protectyour computer system from potential damage and toensure your own personal safety.When Using Your ComputerSystemAs you use your computer system, observe the followingsafety guidelines:• To help avoid damaging your computer, be sure thevoltage selection switch on the power supply is set tomatch the alternating current (AC) power availableat your location:— 115 volts (V)/60 hertz (Hz) in most of North andSouth America and some Far Eastern countriessuch as Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan— 230 V/50 Hz in most of Europe, the MiddleEast, and the Far EastAlso be sure your monitor and attached peripheralsare electrically rated to operate with the AC poweravailable in your location.• To help avoid possible damage to the system board,wait 5 seconds after turning off the system beforeremoving a component from the system board or dis-connecting a peripheral device from the computer.• To help prevent electric shock, plug the computerand peripheral power cables into properly groundedpower sources. These cables are equipped with3-prong plugs to help ensure proper grounding. Donot use adapter plugs or remove the grounding prongfrom a cable. If you must use an extension cable, usea 3-wire cable with properly grounded plugs.• To help protect your computer system from sudden,transient increases and decreases in electrical power,use a surge suppressor, line conditioner, or un-interruptible power supply.• Be sure nothing rests on your computer system’scables and that the cables are not located where theycan be stepped on or tripped over.• Do not spill food or liquids on your computer. If thecomputer gets wet, consult your Diagnostics andTroubleshooting Guide.• Do not push any objects into the openings of yourcomputer. Doing so can cause fire or electric shockby shorting out interior components.• Keep your computer away from radiators and heatsources. Also, do not block cooling vents. Avoidplacing loose papers underneath your computer; donot place your computer in a closed-in wall unit oron a bed, sofa, or rug.Ergonomic Computing HabitsFor comfort and efficiency, observe the following ergo-nomic guidelines when setting up and using yourcomputer system:• Position your system so that the monitor and key-board are directly in front of you as you work.Special shelves are available (from Dell and othersources) to help you correctly position yourkeyboard.WARNING: Improper or prolonged keyboard usemay result in injury.
