Installing System Board Options 6-5Performing a Memory UpgradeFollow this procedure to perform a memory upgrade:1. Remove the computer cover according to theinstructions in “Removing the Computer Cover”in Chapter 5.2. Rotate the power supply out of the way accordingto the instructions in “Rotating the Power SupplyAway From the System Board” in Chapter 5.3. Determine the DIMM sockets into which you willinstall SIMMs or replace existing DIMMs.See Figure 6-1 and Table 6-1.4. Install or replace DIMMs as necessary to reachthe desired memory total.Follow the instructions in “Installing a DIMM” orRemoving a DIMM,” as appropriate, found later inthis section.5. Rotate the power supply back into the computerchassis.6. Replace the computer cover, reconnect your com-puter and peripherals to their power sources, andturn them on.After the system completes the power-on self-test(POST) routine, the system runs a memory test thatdisplays the total memory of all installed DIMMs,including those you just installed.NOTE: If the memory total is incorrect, turn off yourcomputer and peripherals and disconnect them fromtheir power sources, remove the computer cover, andmake sure that the installed DIMMs are seated prop-erly in their sockets. Then repeat this step.Table 6-1.
