The Plug and Play expansioncard is configured automatically by the system.2. Start the ICU.See “Starting the ICU” found earlier in this chapter.3. Select LOCKING ENABLED from the Advanced menu inthe ICU window.A check mark next to LOCKING ENABLED signifies thatthe feature is active; a Lock button appears on the tool bar.4. Click the OK button in the Card Configurationdialog box when you have finished making yourselections.Modifying the Configuration ManagerPCI and Plug and Play expansion cards are automaticallyassigned resources when you start up your system. TheConfiguration Manager makes this resource informationavailable to the ICU.You can modify the Configuration Manager in two waysto conserve system memory. One option for conservingmemory is to set the /nolock parameter in theconfig.sys file. The /nolock parameter disables theLock Resources box in the Configuration Settings dia-log box and saves 30 kilobytes (KB) of memory.NOTE: The /nolock parameter does not affect theLock button or the LOCK/UNLOCK CARD option in theAdvanced menu of the ICU.You can specify the /nolock parameter in the config.sysfile by modifying the file to include the following com-mand line:device=c:\directory\config\dwcfgmg.sys /nolockNOTE: See your MS-DOS reference documentation forinstructions on how to modify the config.sys file.Be sure to replace directory with the name of the directory inwhich you loaded the Configuration Manager. The defaultlocation for the Configuration Manager is in the c:\plugplaydirectory.A second method for conserving memory is to load theConfiguration Manager driver, dwcfgmg.sys, into highmemory using a memory manager, such as EMM386. To doso, you must modify the config.sys file to include the follow-ing command lines:device=c:\windows\emm386.exe noemsdevicehigh /size=a700c:\plugplay\config\dwcfgmg.sysIf you want to take advantage of both options for con-serving system memory by setting the /nolock parameteras well as loading the Configuration Manager into high mem-ory, modify the config.sys file to contain the followingcommand lines:device=c:\windows\emm386.exe noemsdevicehigh /size=32e0 c:\plugplay\con-fig\dwcfgmg.sys /nolock93816BK0.BK : 93816c30.frm Page 11 Monday, September 16, 1996 1:21 PM
